This has been very useful to me in arranging the forthcoming dances.
Almost everyone was happy with the present venue, so I have booked all the dances for next season at The Royal Victoria. Friday evening proved to be the most popular so we are having three dances on Friday, and one on Thursday. We could not have a Friday during November as they are reserved for Christmas Party nights!
Andrew Nix remains our favourite musician, and many people have suggested that we try other keyboard players. Some people would like to have the Freddie Gray Band again. Some enjoyed the band we had last season, others found them rather strident.
One of the main reasons that keyboards are popular with members is because it is easier to converse if you are not dancing. I have, therefore, booked keyboard players for three of next season’s dances and, I have booked the Freddie Gray Band / Richard on keyboard, for the other dance.
Aubrey Robinson is the resident organist at Sheffield City Hall, and a favourite with many who dance there. Mike Graham Music is a keyboard / vocalist duo which is popular at the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield.
The 50% ballroom, 25% latin, 25% sequence mix seems to suit most people. I do ask the musicians not to play requests if it means that this ratio is altered too much.
We have maintained the membership fee, and the dance prices for members, at the same level as last year. This has only been achieved because our attendance numbers for all the dances were pleasingly high. I look forward to seeing you, your guests, and hopefully some new members at the dances next season.
Heather, Hon. Secretary.
